There are 33 million small businesses in the US. The vast majority are posting inconsistently on social media โ or not at all โ because the owner is simply too busy. That’s your opportunity.
What SMM Actually Involves
- Creating and scheduling 3โ5 posts per week per client
- Responding to comments and DMs
- Basic graphic design (Canva is sufficient)
- Monthly reporting (screenshots + follower growth)
You do NOT need to be a marketing expert. You need to be consistent and responsive.
What to Charge
- Starter package: $300โ$500/month (3 posts/week, 1 platform)
- Growth package: $500โ$800/month (5 posts/week, 2 platforms)
- Premium package: $800โ$1,500/month (daily posts, all platforms, ads management)
How to Get Your First Client
Don’t start on Fiverr competing with low-price providers. Go local first:
- List 20 local businesses with weak Instagram/Facebook presence
- Spend 30 minutes creating 3 sample posts for each prospect (use Canva)
- Email or walk in: “I noticed your social media hasn’t been updated. I made these 3 sample posts for you โ free. If you’d like me to do this consistently, I charge $400/month.”
- Convert 1โ2 of 20 pitches. Repeat.
Scaling to $3,000/Month
With a starter package at $400/month, you need 7โ8 clients. That’s very achievable within 3โ4 months of consistent outreach. At $600 average, you only need 5 clients.
