Amazon Merch on Demand is Amazon’s print-on-demand program. You upload a design, set a royalty, and Amazon lists it for sale, prints it on demand, ships it, and handles returns. You earn $2โ€“$7 per shirt without touching inventory.

The Non-Designer Approach

Text-based designs in Canva: simple typography designs (“Dog Mom,” “Retired Teacher,” “Just One More Chapter”) sell extremely well and require zero illustration skill. License designs from design marketplaces: buy commercial-use licenses for $5โ€“$30 per design on Creative Market or Etsy, then sell on Merch. Commission designs on Fiverr for $20โ€“$50 each for best-sellers you scale.

Niche Research

Search Amazon for “teacher shirt,” “nurse gift,” “grandma shirt.” Look at the top 20 results. Check their BSR (Best Seller Rank) โ€” under 200,000 means they sell regularly. Find niches where the competition is weaker (fewer designs) but demand exists. Occupations, sports, hobbies, and pet breeds are perennially profitable.

Merch Tier System
Earn: More listings = more income
Merch starts you at 10 design slots. Reach 10 sales and you tier up to 25 slots. Keep scaling. Top-tier sellers have 10,000+ designs โ€” at $0.30 average monthly per design, that’s $3,000/month without promotion.
